Maybe it should, for patients newly starting clopidogrel with aspirin.
Patients who require clopidogrel with aspirin (dual antiplatelet therapy) may be eligible for a clinical trial of an investigational medication that combines clopidogrel and a gastroprotective agent. The investigational medication is being studied to determine if, when taken with aspirin, it reduces the occurrence of stomach bleeding and ulcers compared to clopidogrel and aspirin alone.
We are currently seeking outpatient or hospitalized (anticipated
discharge within 48 hours of randomization), male or female patients,
for this clinical trial.
Potential patients may be eligible for this clinical trial if they:
- Have initiated treatment with clopidogrel and aspirin within thepast 21 days
- Clopidogrel with aspirin may have been prescribed, for example,
to treat acute coronary syndrome, ST segment elevation myocardial infarction, or following placement of a coronary artery stent
- Have no continuing medical requirement for use of a proton pump inhibitor, an H2 receptor blocker, sucralfate or misoprostol
COGENT-1 is an event-driven clinical study to determine if the investigational
medication taken with aspirin compared to clopidogrel with aspirin decreases
the occurrence of clinically relevant
gastrointestinal events such as upper
gastrointestinal bleeding and ulcers.
