Nephrology - the subspecialty of Internal Medicine which specializes in
the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of medical (non-surgical)
kidney diseases. A Nephrologist is trained to treat diseases of the
kidney in a comprehensive manner, since diseases of the kidney may also
involve the function of other organs. Nephrology includes the treatment
of conditions linked to kidney diseases, such as hypertension. A
Nephrologist supervises use of dialysis to treat patients with acute and
chronic kidney failure and manages the kidney transplant patient.
